WORK LOCATION DETAILSWork Location: Home Office - Coppell, TXWork Schedule: HybridOnsite: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays Work from Home: Mondays and FridaysJOB SUMMARYThe Staff Accountant supports the company’s financial reporting function, the integrity of the general ledger and trial balance, various financial accounting functions, and technical accounting initiatives. This role prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting schedules, and supporting analyses used in monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external reporting deliverables.Working under the Manager’s direction, the Staff Accountant also supports technical accounting research, audit and internal control activities, system enhancements, and process improvements, including appropriate use of automation and AI-enabled tools.This position requires strong attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills, and a proactive mindset, with the ability to work independently, collaborate across functions, meet deadlines, and promptly escalate complex or unusual matters.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSFinancial ReportingPrepare recurring schedules and analyses that support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.Review reporting data for accuracy and completeness and research routine variances or discrepancies.Assist in preparing financial statements and disclosures in accordance with US GAAP.Maintain complete, organized reporting workpapers, supporting documentation, and recurring schedules.General Ledger, Trial Balance & Month End ClosePrepare and record assigned journal entries with complete supporting documentation.Prepare assigned general ledger account reconciliations and research reconciling items for timely resolution.Review assigned trial balance accounts for unusual activity or classification issues.Prepare variance explanations and escalate non-routine matters to the Manager.Technical Accounting, Special Projects & ControlsAssist with accounting research and new accounting guidance under the Manager's direction.Gather documentation, prepare supporting analyses, and draft technical accounting materials for review, including for assigned equity, compensation, and loyalty matters.Update accounting policies, procedures, process narratives, and other documentation as assigned.Prepare audit support, execute assigned controls, maintain supporting evidence, and follow up on routine open items.Technology, Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)Use SAP, BPC, Excel, and other reporting tools to prepare and validate accounting and financial reporting information.Identify repetitive or manual tasks and suggest opportunities for process improvement, automation, or appropriate use of AI-enabled tools.Assist with testing and documenting process or system changes and related controls.Collaboration & AccountabilityIncorporate review feedback and keep the Manager informed of status, deadlines, and open items.Work with FP&A, Treasury, Accounting Operations, Tax, and other groups to obtain information, complete assigned processes, and resolve routine questions.Organize assigned work to manage priorities and meet established reporting deadlines.Support process improvements and the standardization of workpapers, controls, and reporting processes.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in Accounting1-2 years of relevant accounting experience in either industry or public accounting; experience with a multi-unit or retail business preferredWorking knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting through public accounting and/or industryExposure to technical accounting research, audits, and internal controlsLarge ERP experience preferred – either through public accounting audit work or industryAdvanced Excel skills and the ability to work accurately with large data sets; proficiency with Microsoft Word and OutlookCPA eligibility or progress toward CPA certification preferredSKILLS & ATTRIBUTESStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and commitment to accuracyAbility to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlinesStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively across functionsComfort with evolving technologies, systems, and automation toolsIntellectual curiosity and willingness to explore, test, and adopt new tools, systems, and ways of workingSound judgment, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and willingness to escalate issues when appropriateWHO WE AREDiscover At Home, the Home and Holiday Décor Superstore with endless aisles of must-have styles at prices so low you won't believe it.
